Southeast Asia will replace China as the global hub for laptop production, Market Intelligence & Consulting said.

According to the Nikkei Asian Review, by 2030, half of the laptops in the world will be produced by Southeast Asian countries. Research organizations Taiwan (China) also forecasts that Vietnam and Thailand will become key production centers.

Explaining this, the Market Intelligence & Consulting (MIC) Research Institute (MIC) said that the increasing labor costs coupled with the fact that many businesses want to reduce the excessive dependence on China will contribute to promoting early activity. invest in producing laptop computers in Southeast Asia.

In 2019, the total number of laptops produced in the global market reached 160 million units. 90% of which is made by Taiwan (China) factories. Southeast Asia accounts for only a small percentage of the world’s total laptop production.

According to the MIC survey, China’s share of total global laptop production will decrease from 90% to 40% by 2030. Taiwan’s Wistron (China ) will produce laptops under the authorization of the US brand in Vietnam.

Several other Taiwanese computer companies, such as Compal Electronics, are considering expanding production in Vietnam. The world’s third-largest contract laptop maker - Quanta Computer, is expected to make laptops in Thailand.

 

It is likely that Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn), currently holding the position of the largest manufacturer of electronic products in the world, will start producing laptops in Vietnam in the near future.

It is expected that the number of notebook computers produced this year will increase 6% to 170 million units. The Covid-19 epidemic has increased the need for communication and distance learning, and at the same time increases the need to use a Chromebook - one of the most popular laptops today.

Chromebooks are laptops running Google’s Chrome operating system, in other words, Chrome OS is just an extension of the Google Chrome browser.

Recently, major corporations such as Lenovo of China, HP of the United States or Asustek Computer of Taiwan (China) have launched Chromebooks with different versions. Most of these models are manufactured by Taiwanese companies.
