“The Uruguayan Government and its people always regard Vietnam as their closest friend in Asia,” said the Uruguayan President, emphasising that his country has placed a lot of importance on promoting friendship and cooperation with the country.
President Vazquez said that he was extremely pleased to welcome the Vietnamese Vice President and considers her official visit a valuable opportunity for both countries to further friendship and cooperation.
On recalling the very warm welcome he received from Vietnam’s leaders and people during his visit to Vietnam in November 2007, President Vazquez said that he believed the two countries’ existing ties will continue to reap more rewards in the future.
Vice President Doan replied that her visit offers the ministries of both countries an opportunity to work together and seek out appropriate methods and fields of cooperation to further strengthen and broaden existing bilateral ties. She asked the Uruguayan Government to recognise Vietnam as a market economy and apply more appropriate regulations to the country to facilitate an increase in trade between the two countries.
On the occasion, Vice President Doan also informed President Tabare Vazquez that Vietnam will resoundingly support Uruguay when it puts itself up as a candidate for the UN Human Rights Council in the 2009-2021 term and at other international forums.
