The scholarships are part of the SCG Foundation Regional Scholarship Program, which offers 10 scholarships to Southeast Asian university students and government staff to study in Thailand for the academic year 2009-2010.
SCG will offer four scholarships for Vietnamese students to pursue a Master’s of Energy Technology and Industrial Engineering at Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), a Master’s of Chemical Engineering at Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology, and a Master’s of Business Administration at Assumption University.
Candidates must have less than three years experience in related fields and a grade point average of at least 7.0.
The scholarships cover tuition, accommodation, monthly allowances, health insurance, uniforms and yearly round-trip airfares for two years of study. Scholarship winners will be given the opportunity to participate in an internship program with SCG and to work for the company.
SCG has launched a variety of scholarship programs worth US$1.5 million annually in ASEAN countries, according to a statement sent to the Daily.
“The SCG Foundation Regional Scholarship is one of our constant efforts to provide students an opportunity to pursue their education and advance their knowledge in their pursuit to become top-notch professionals,” SCG Foundation manager Suranuch Thongsila said in the statement.
Thongsila said SCG expected to help produce well-trained and critically-minded graduates who will bring back their cultivated skills and knowledge to contribute to the progress of their respective countries.

Two of them have graduated from the International Development Studies program at Chulalongkorn University and are now local government officials.
