Trung Thuy Joint Stock Company, owner of the luxury Lancaster building in downtown HCMC, will start work on a roadside rest stop for tourists in the central city of Danang in July.

Company chairwoman Duong Thanh Thuy said her company had received an investment certificate and would spend around VND100 billion on the project.

“The project is on and will start in July for first phase operation in the forthcoming Lunar New Year,” she said. Hai Van Rest Stop, to cover eight hectares, will have parking lots, rest-rooms, restaurants, motels an entertainment area, and area to promote local handicrafts and village art. Thuy said 30 motels would go up starting in June 2010 and a village craft area starting in 2011. Investment for the project’s first two phases totals VND60 billion.

Three years ago the company opened the 12,000 square-meter Mekong Rest Stop in Long An Commune in Long An Province’s Chau Thanh District. “The project is similar to the Mekong Rest Stop in Tien Giang Province but three times larger,” Thuy said.

Thuy said the company is planning a network of stop-over stations, including one in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho and one in the southern province of Dong Nai later this year.

Trung Thuy manages office buildings and shopping centers, and spas in HCMC and Hanoi, and a tourist stop-over center in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang. The company also plans to build a resort in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and another office building in Hanoi.
