Sony Corp. has begun importing products into Vietnam after closing down its production facility in Ho Chi Minh City in late September.

Sony Electronics Vietnam, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Japanese technology giant, Wednesday introduced three models of Vaio laptops to the local market. The products are made by a Sony affiliate in China.

Sony Electronics Vietnam said it would import other electronic products, including liquid crystal display (LCD) television sets, CD and DVD players and cameras in coming months.

The products will be distributed through Vietnamese companies. Under Vietnam’s commitments to the World Trade Organization (WTO), which it joined last year, foreign companies can import products to Vietnam but are not allowed to distribute them.
