ASEAN countries should work together to build strong policies in support of today’s youth, a Vietnamese leader said at a regional summit this week.

Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee, Phan Van Mai, made the statement while attending the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth (AMMY) in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday and Friday.

Mai attended the sixth AMMY, the second AMMY +3 (China, Republic of Korea and Japan), and the third AMMY+ China.

Mai, who led the Vietnamese delegation to the three meetings, said youth play an important role in ASEAN’s future.

He lauded ASEAN initiatives and the implementation of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community’s action plans.

On the sidelines of the meetings, more than 60 delegations attended the 1st ASEAN+3 Youth Caucus.

While holding the ASEAN presidency next year, Vietnam will host AMMYs and other important events in Hanoi.
