Vietnam may stop importing fertilizer from 2020 when domestic output is expected to meet the country’s demands, Thoi Bao Kinh Te Vietnam newspaper reported, citing information from the agricultural ministry.

The Southeast Asian nation requires about 7.5 million metric tons to 8 million tons of fertilizer a year while local production meets only half of domestic needs, according to the newspaper.

Vietnam will have to import more than 500,000 tons of different kinds of fertilizer a year from now until 2020, Thoi Bao reported.
