The Ministry of Planning and Investment has granted the investment license for an underground car park project in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 1, its investor said Monday (12 Oct 2009).

Tran Luan Ngo, deputy general director of the Underground Space Investment and Development Company, said the VND1.7 trillion (USD 95.6 million) project to build a multistoried underground parking lot in District 1’s Le Van Tam Park will be implemented in the BOT (build-operate-transfer) form. He said as his company would have to deal with land transfer procedures and wait for HCMC’s construction certificate, so it is yet to set a time for work to begin on the project.

The underground parking lot will have eight floors with a total area of more than 103,200 square meters. Five floors will be used for car parking and technical infrastructure, and the remainder for shopping and other services.

This will be the second underground car park for the public in HCM City and is expected to help ease the endemic parking shortage, especially in downtown areas.

The Chi Lang underground car park that is being constructed now will only serve surrounding trade centers, hotels and office buildings, said by local newswire.
