Chinese contractors GEDI and AE & Amp;E will jointly design and provide a sulfur treatment system for the Vung Ang No.1 thermal power plant in the central province of Ha Tinh. Under a contract signed in Hanoi on May 10 with the Vietnam Machinery Erection Corporation (Lilama), main contractor for the plant, GEDI and AE&E will also be responsible for installing and testing the system before handing it over to Lilama.
Under the US$32-million contract, the power plant will be the first in the country to be armed with the sulfur treatment system using sea water, said Lilama Corp. General Director Pham Hung.
GEDI and AE&E are said to be very experienced in designing and providing equipment for large electricity power plants in the world.
The US$1.2-billion power plant is the country’s largest thermal power plant with a full design capacity of 1,200 MW.
As one of the 16 national key projects approved by the government, it is part of the country’s power development plan for the 2006 – 2015 period. The plant’s first turbine group is expected to start generating power in July 2012. |
