In its regular meeting for October 2010 on November 6, the government gave top priority to curbing inflation, stabilising macro-economy, tightening price control, and strictly punishing all price-relating violations. The government also gave comments on the draft strategy on national loans and payment 2010–2020 with visions to 2030–2050, and the draft ordinance on merging legal documents. Positive socio-economic results

In October and the first ten months, Vietnam saw positive advancements in socio-economic development and recovery. From January to October, industrial production increased by 13.7 per cent against the same period of 2009 and even higher than the year plan (12 per cent).

Vietnam earned approximately $57.8 billion from exports, up 23.3 per cent compared to the same period of 2009, quadrupling the NA’s preset norm. The excess of imports over exports dropped to 16.45 per cent of the export turnover, the lowest for recent years. In October, the government instructed ministries, agencies and local authorities to secure safety and provide emergency relief to people in flood-ravaged central provinces.

The government allocated VND730 billion and 14,000 tonnes of rice to the victims. Also in last month, Vietnam successfully hosted the 17th ASEAN Summits and related summits which helped to raise the country’s status on regional and international arenas. Top mission: Reining in inflation Concluding the meeting, PM Nguyen Tan Dung highlighted the top mission in the remaining months of 2010 as curbing inflation and controlling prices. He ordered local authorities to discover and punish all price-relating violations.

The PM also urged relevant agencies to center on dealing with consequences of floods in the central region, rebuilding infrastructure and recovering production and daily activities there. The government chief mentioned administrative reforms, anti-corruption, reduction of traffic accidents, promotion of export, and prevention of epidemics for crops and animals.
