The HCM City government is set to appraise the responsibilities of several public agencies in the wrongful relocation of residents in a major urban projects.

In January the city Inspectorate began to look into the resettlement of people whose lands were acquired for the Thu Thiem urban project in District 2 following a slew of complaints from them last year.

The probe concluded this month. The 930-hectare project, launched in 1996, includes 160 hectares for resettling people.

Disaffected landowners handed in a spate of petitions complaining that local authorities gave them land elsewhere and not near the new urban area.

The city administration has already instructed agencies concerned to earmark lands closer to the Thu Thiem new urban area as promised.

In a report it made yesterday the Inspectorate said several government agencies had committed wrongdoings. It recommended that the city authorities thoroughly review the role of several public agencies.

The agencies include the Investment and Construction Management agency, the District 2 People’s Committee, the city departments of Natural Resources and Environment and Zoning and Architecture, and the people’s committees of An Loi Dong, Thu Thiem, An Khanh, Binh An, and Binh Khanh wards in District 2.
