| Vietnam Targets at US$3.1 Bln Bilateral Trade with Middle East in 2010 |

4/25/2009 11:40:00 AM The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued an action agenda with aims to expand bilateral trade with the Middle East to US$3.1 billion in 2010 and to US$9.6 billion in 2015, Vietnam News Agency said. The ministry said in a statement that Vietnam will focus on boosting exports of farm produces, food and fine art goods to US$2.3 billion by 2010 and US$7.5 billion by 2015.
Bilateral trade between Vietnam and the Middle East has grown considerably as several Middle East countries are shifting their trade and business activities to oriental nations, including Vietnam.
The United Arab Emirates and Turkey are leading importers of Vietnamese goods while Israel and Saudi Arabia have recently opened up their markets to Vietnamese exports.
Last year, Vietnam’s two-way trade with the Middle East reached US$1.2 billion, of which Vietnam exported US$700 million, excluding exports value by Vietnam via a third country.
Vietnam’s main exports to the Middle East are rice, coffee, apparels, computers, electronic components, footwear, seafood and furniture while imports gas and petrochemical products, fertilizers, iron and steel from oil-rich region. (VNA) |
