Mekong Delta provinces are working together to outline an industrial production strategy with an aim to raise the sector’s value to 40 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP) by 2015.

To realise the target, the region will speed up the implementation of the Ca Mau gas-power-fertilizer complex and O Mon thermal power plant in a bid to secure power supply for production.

Industrial axes like Long An-Tieng Giang-Can Tho, Can Tho-Soc Trang-Bac Lieu-Ca Mau, and Can Tho-An Giang-Kien Giang will also be formed.

Moreover, the region plans to step up connectivity with Ho Chi Minh City and Southeastern region, continues developing seafood and food processing.

In the time to come, the construction of a highway linking Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho will be launched and other highways connecting Can Tho, Ca Mau and Kien Giang will also be improved.

Localities in the region like An Giang, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Hau Giang, Can Tho have vast potential for catfish processing while Ben tra boasts for coconut, and Tien Giang, Vinh Long, and Can Tho are famous for fruits.
