The estimated cost for the expressway connecting Nha Trang City in Khanh Hoa Province to Phan Thiet City in Binh Thuan Province is over VND77 trillion, or some US$3.5 billion, with over VND49 trillion for construction alone.

According to a report of the Construction Consultancy, Survey and Design Company under the Ministry of Defense and Transport Engineering Consultants Company No. 8, the Nha Trang-Phan Thiet expressway having a length of 235 kilometers will start in Khanh Hoa Province’s Dien Khanh District and end at the Dau Giay-Phan Thiet expressway in Binh Thuan Province.

The Nha Trang-Phan Thiet expressway, part of the north-south expressway project approved by the Prime Minister, is designed to have six lanes but it will have only four lanes in the first phase and a designed speed of 120 kilometers per hour.

Capital for this expressway will be sourced from official development assistance loans, capital of investors and the budget of the State.

Under the plan of the Ministry of Transport, the north-south expressway project will be divided into sections. Specifically, after the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway finishes late next year, the Dau Giay-Phan Thiet and Nha Trang-Phan Thiet expressways will be implemented.

Regarding the Dau Giay-Phan Thiet expressway which will be developed under the public-private partnership form, the feasibility of this project is being studied.
