A strategy on developing science and technology in Hanoi to 2020 has set ambitious targets of raising value of hi-tech products to 20% of the capital’s GDP by 2015 and 50% by 2020.

On realizing those, Hanoi is set to build some centers performing technology transaction, technology research and transfer…

By 2020, the city aims to have 2-3 university urban areas, 10-15 technology incubators and a Science Park.

Resources will be allocated to the development of biotechnology, new material technology, engineering technology, electricity, electronics, automation and information technology.

However, Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao has acknowledged a lack of favorable mechanisms and policies is a big hindrance to encouraging scientists and enterprises to research and apply scientific and technological advancements so science and technology markets are yet to be born.
