The Ca Mau gas, power and fertiliser complex has started to operate in Khanh An commune, U Minh district, in the southernmost province of Ca Mau since Oct 2012.
PetroVietnam’s General Director Do Van Hau stressed that the complex has great effects on the southwestern region and the whole country, making important contribution to realising socio-economic development goals and ensuring social security in the Mekong Delta in general and Ca Mau province in particular.
It has also attracted and developed trade, services, engineering, material supply and created jobs for thousands of workers, Hau said, estimating that the industrial complex would contribute over 1 trillion VND to the province’s budget.
The Ca Mau gas, power and fertiliser project was approved by the Prime Minister in 2001 with the aim to explore and use the country’s natural gas resource effectively.
The 2 billion USD project includes a PM3-CM gas pipeline, the CM1 and CM2 power plants, the Ca Mau fertiliser plant and other facilities.
Since its operation, the PM3-CM pipeline has provided more than 7 billion cu.m of gas for the three power and fertiliser plants in the complex.
While the CM1 and CM2 power plants have generated 32.6 billion kWh to the national grid, the Ca Mau fertiliser plant has so far rolled out more than 400,000 tonnes of urea, meeting 40 percent of the market’s demand.
