National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung has affirmed that Vietnam wishes to increase cooperation with the Republic of Korea (RoK), and suggested that the two sides maintain all-level delegation exchanges to boost mutual understanding and trust.

During talks in January 2013 in Hanoi with Kang Chang Hee, Speaker of the National Assembly in RoK, Hung described his official visit as a demonstration of the strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, which will strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two NAs.

Hung expressed his delight at the developing bilateral ties, especially the successful Vietnam-RoK Friendship Year that marked the 20th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

Applauding the economic cooperation between the two countries, which has benefited the people from both nations, he said he hopes the RoK’s NA will continue to support Vietnam and help increase ODA from RoK, especially for infrastructure development.

Vietnam’s NA will increase its supervision of ODA to ensure it is used effectively, he said.

Hailing the two countries’ close coordination at regional and international parliamentary forums, the NA Chairman said he believes the collective effort of the two NAs, States, Governments and people will help the Vietnam-RoK strategic cooperative partnership flourish, benefiting both sides, and enhancing peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

Kang Chang Hee agreed with his counterpart’s suggestions, emphasising the close and effective relations businesses from both sides have enjoyed in the last two decades.

Vietnam ’s advantageous geographical location and its natural and human resources will help the two countries further strengthen their cooperation, he said.

Meanwhile, RoK, with its strong economic development and industry, is willing to cooperate and share its experiences with Vietnam, he added, stressing that t he finalisation of a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) with Vietnam will expand comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.

Past cooperation between the two Parliaments has helped strengthen exchanges and understanding between the two nations’ people, he said.

The RoK Parliament wishes to closely cooperate with its Vietnamese counterpart, especially in sharing legislative and supervisory experience, the leader said, adding that he will make every effort to ensure the interests of foreign brides, including those from Vietnam .

At the talks, the two sides agreed to strengthen coordination and boost cooperation in science and technology.

The legislators affirmed that they will do their utmost to foster friendship and cooperation between the people and Parliaments of both countries.

In the evening of January 14, NA Chairman Hung hosted a banquet in honour of his RoK counterpart.
