Japan’s Electric Power Development Co. announced it has bought a 5-percent stake in Petrovietnam Nhon Trach 2 Power Joint Stock Co.

The Japanese company, better known as J-Power, now holds stake in an independent power producer that has plans to build a thermal power plant in the Dong Nai Province, the Jiji Press news service reports. The new plant is aimed at meeting growing electricity demand in southern Vietnam and will use natural gas to generate electricity. The plant is contracted to sell the power it generates to the state-run Vietnam Electricity starting in 2010.
