Thailand’s TCC Group announced at an event in HCMC on January 10 that Metro Cash & Carry Vietnam had been renamed as MM Mega Market Vietnam Co Ltd.

The renaming comes after the group took over Metro Group’s entire wholesale operations in Vietnam a year ago.

TCC acquired Metro’s 19 stores and related real properties at a total value of 655 million euros in January 2016. The rebranding of all the 19 stores will be completed this year.

TCC chairman Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi said after a year-long transition from Metro to TCC Group, now was the time for the group to rename the business and unveil the new brand name MM Mega Market Vietnam.

“Not only will we continue to further the values that Metro Vietnam had been working hard to build over the last 14 years in Vietnam, we will also commit ourselves to making strong investments here to develop new brand name MM Mega Market that is better in every way, from services to products, to serve our customers in Vietnam to the best of our capabilities,” Charoen said.

Charoen noted that as one of the biggest Thai investors in Vietnam, TCC through MM Mega Market wants to invest in human resources and bolster partnerships with domestic suppliers and farmers to improve the supply chain and offer customers safe and quality products while creating jobs for local workers.

Through MM Mega Market, TCC will be able to step up the marketing and distribution of Vietnam’s products in Thailand and other markets in ASEAN where the group is present.

Phidsanu Pongwatana, managing director of MM Mega Market Vietnam, said MM Mega Market offers the new concept of a modern warehouse outlet. The company will go through changes in all spheres, from improved image and store setup, to the development of new products and reinforcement of food safety control through the development of a safe food supply chain.

“We will further develop two meat platforms in Hanoi and HCMC, in addition to the existing fish platform in Can Tho, while targeting enlargement of farm land for safe vegetable production under our partnership with local farmers to 250 hectares, double that of 2016,” Phidsanu said.

Phidsanu added that one of the first things the company will do after the launch of the new brand is to further cooperate with local suppliers, develop new products for customers, and create competitive goods categories for the market.

Established in 1960, Thai Charoen Corporation Group (TCC) is one of the leading corporations in Thailand. The group is one of the largest Thai investors in Vietnam with stakes in Melia Hanoi and a number of real properties in Hanoi and HCMC. Through its affiliates, TCC offers more than 8,000 employment opportunities for Vietnamese across the country.
