The US Department of Commerce (DOC) has officially announced that there is insufficient evidence to warrant self-initiating an antidumping investigation into Vietnam’s certain textile and apparel products.

he announcement was made after the DOC reviewing the third six months of data from the monitoring programme of apparel imports from Vietnam.

In a press release issued on November 21, the DOC’s Assistant Secretary for Import Administration David Spooner said: "Commerce has concluded the third review of the import-monitoring programme covering certain textile and apparel products from Vietnam" and "this final investigation reveals that prices of Vietnamese apparel are in line with, and in most cases even exceed, other major suppliers, including Central America."

The DOC examined import data for five different apparel product groups from the Southeast Asian country, namely trousers, shirts, underwear, swimwear and sweaters, during the third six-month period, from February through July 2008.

"This is the final review under the import monitoring programme that will conclude at the end of this Administration," the press release said.
