Introduction
  Overview

Vinh Long is one of 13 provinces, cities of Mekong River Delta Area which is located at a special geographical location comparing to other provinces that is at the downstream of Mekong river, at the middle of two rivers of Tien Giang and Hau Giang, connecting two big rivers to the North-South of Mang Thit river and has the dense system of rivers, channels which are distributed quite evenly between  regional and international transportation through sea gates of Tieu, Dai, Ham Luong, Co Chien, Dinh An.... This advantage gives Vinh Long an important position in the development strategy of Mekong River Delta and key economic zone of the South region. Furthermore, Vinh Long is located at the middle of two big economic centers of Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho City and about 30km away from Tra Noc International Airport. My Thuan bridge, Can Tho bridge have been brought into operation and in the coming time, Ho Chi Minh city – Can Tho Expressway will be completed and operated, Vinh Long will play role of a big bridge span on the socio-economic development route of the region and the whole country to create a breakthrough in investments for production and business of dommestic and foreign ennterprises.

Climate:

 Vinh Long is positioned in the tropical monsoon area with two separated seasons: dry season and rainy season.

 The average temperature: 26 - 27 º C.

  Transport infrastructures

Airway:

There is only 30km far from downtown of Vinh Long city to Tra Noc airport in Can Tho city, and 140km to Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.

 

 Roadway:

The province has 10 main road routes with total length of 363km, including 05 national highways crossing the province. Most of the national highways, province roads have been ungraded and expanded to ensure that vehicles travel smoothly with the My Thuan bridge and Can Tho bridge combine Ho Chi Minh city – Can Tho Expressway crossing alongside Vinh Lonh city to districts and industrial zones of the province that creates facilities for transporting goods quickly and conveniently from the province to economic centers.

 

 Riverway:

The province has interlacing river systems with total length of 731km, there are 03 river routes running through that enable to welcome ships with loading capacity of 3000 – 5000 tons. The river systems play very important role in transporation in Mekong River Delta region and spread everywhere and then flow to East sea, then to Cambodia....

Vinh Long port (Tien river)

Located in Vinh Long city with turn-round capacity of 300,000 tons per year and it enables to receive ships with loading capacity of 3,500 tons.

 Binh Minh port (Hau river)

Located in the left of Hau river in My Hoa commune, Binh Minh district, alongside the path to Can Tho bridge in the lower section of Hau river. Its turn-round cpacity is of 588,000 tons per year. At present, ships of 7,000 loading capacity enable to go easily.

An Phuoc port (Co Chien river)

Located in An Phuoc commute, Mang Thit district, on the transportation route from Ho Chi Minh city to Can Tho city, it is 60,2m long and 11m wide with its total area of over 03ha. An Phuoc port is designed to receive ships and barges with loading capacity of 1,500 tons.

  Economic situations

The proportion of industry accounts for 16,18% of the province’s GDP. To create momentum for economic development, Vinh Long has planned 17 industrial zones, clusters annd routes with a total area of about 1,313ha which are evenly distributed in all districts and city. In particular, Hoa Phu Industrial Park is about 260ha in Long Ho district; Binh Minh Industrial Park with total area of 132ha is located in Binh Minh district; Co Chien Industrial Route with nearly 20km long with total area of 250ha; and Phu An Industrial Cluster is in Tam Binh district with total area of 88ha....

Besides, the province is planning Industrial Park – Commercial and Services – Urban Area with the scale of approximately 4,000ha, including: Commercial annd Services Center Area, new urban area....and 03 industrial parks with innternational and regional standard modern innfrastructure that will help attract big invesments in industry and services for the forthcoming time.
