Society Modern wastewater treatment plant inaugurated in Bac Ninh
Date: 9/28/2015 2:31:27 PM
The Tu Son wastewater treatment plant, which has a capacity of 33,000 m3 per day, was inaugurated in Tu Son town, Bac Ninh province on September 6 in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai.

The plant is part of the Tu Son town’s wastewater treatment system with a total investment of VND800 billion (US$36 million) for the first phase to serve around 100,000 people in Tu Son town.

The wastewater treatment plant also includes a wastewater collection system measuring 40km. In the second phase of the project, the plant’s capacity will be raised to 70,000m3 per day with a total investment of roughly VND1,200 billion (US$54 million).

The plant, which is equipped with advanced technology, uses a smaller land area than other plants in Vietnam using conventional technology. It uses only 150m2 of land to treat 1,000m3 of wastewater per day instead of 450 to 3,000m2 for treating 1,000m3 per day. Thanks to modern technology, the treatment process will not generate pollutants such as gas, smell or noise, thus not affecting the environment or local people. Tu Son town has a high concentration of craft villages which discharge heavily polluted sewage.

The plant will help boost wastewater treatment in both craft villages and residential areas at low cost. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Deputy PM Hai highlighted the role of the project for the purpose of community development as there are only 50 domestic wastewater treatment plants across the country and 26 others are under construction, meeting only 22% of the total demand for domestic wastewater treatment.

In the meantime, 87% of industrial sewage at industrial zones has been treated. He also appreciated the project for its low cost which only uses around VND17 million for treating one m3 of wastewater, lower than the estimate of the Ministry of Construction at VND20 million per m3 and lower than the cost from foreign direct investment at VND40 million per m3.

The project is invested by Phu Dien Construction Investment and Trading Joint Stock Company and SFC Vietnam Environment Investment and Development Joint Stock Company in the form of BT (build-transfer) model.
