Viet Nam will audit projects ODA funded by Japan this year in an effort to fight corruption and raise ODA efficiency, said an official from the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) said.
Head of the MPI’s Bidding Management Department Dang Huy Dong said the list of seven big bidding packages has been sent to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for approval to implement the audit. He also added that the department’s newly-established bidding support center will select bidders for Japan’s ODA-funded projects.
Japan and Viet Nam set up a supervising mechanism for ODA-funded projects to increase transparency and combat corruption. Japan has recently resumed ODA loans for Vietnam, and pledged to provide 83 billion yen ($837 million) for Vietnams infrastructure projects this year based on the Vietnamese governments attempts to tackle corruption.
