According to the Asia Business Council (ABC), Vietnam ranks third in Asia in attractiveness to Asian businessmen
In 2006 nearly 80% of surveyed businessmen said they invested in China. The ratio sank to 64% in 2007 and 61% this year. While the ratio is decreasing for China, it is increasing for Vietnam with growth of 28% in 2008.
Explaining their investment decisions, Asian businessmen said labour costs in Vietnam and India are still attractively low. In addition, since becoming a World Trade Organization member in 2007, the Vietnamese economy seems to them to be more open.
The ABC was founded in 2001, based in Hong Kong. It comprises nearly 70 businessmen representing industrial and commercial companies in Asia. Annually, ABC releases a survey about major economic trends of businessmen in Asia.
In this year’s survey, Vietnam was behind only India and China and in front of the US.
