Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Hungarian counterpart Bajnai Gordon affirmed their pledge to develop a stable, long-term and mutually beneficial relationship during talks in Budapest on Friday (18 Sep 2009), before Dung wrapped up his European tour the day after.

Vietnam and Hungary prioritize trade, investment ties.

The two prime ministers appreciated strong development of bilateral trade and investment ties between the two nations in recent years. However, the results have yet to match both countries’ potential and the leaders agreed to give priority to trade and investment cooperation to increase two-way trade, according to the government website www.chinhphu.vn. They also pledged to review the implementation of agreements signed earlier between the two governments to create legal foundation for bilateral cooperation in various sectors.

The two leaders, speaking to reporters in Budapest, appreciated the new agreements signed between the two sides, saying such deals, including those on finance, migration, consular and nationality-related affairs, energy and nuclear research, would help foster Vietnam-Hungary relations in the future.

While in Budapest, PM Dung also met with President Solyom Laszlo, National Assembly chairman Béla Katona, head of the Hungarian Socialist Party Ildiko Lendvai, and other high-ranking officials.
