FDI in June increases slightly

Both FDI registered and disbursed capital decreased in June compared to May, however, in the past six months, FDI disbursement showed an increase of 5.9 percent against the same period last year.

Following the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) report, disbursed FDI capital in June is estimated to reach about US$900 million, a reduction of 18 percent compared to May.

Overall, in the first two quarters, the disbursed capital increased to US$5.4 billion, a rise of 6 percent against last year.

Vietnam has set a goal to attract US$22-25 billion in FDI capital and disburse US$10-11 billion by the end of this year. However, there were not strong signs of atracting FDI in the past months.

In six months, foreign investors registered US$8.43 billion in capital, equal to 80.9 percent in the same period last year. There are currently 39 countries and territories investing in projects in Vietnam.

The Netherlands is the biggest investor, followed by the Republic of Korea and Japan.

The southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau attracted the most capital in the reviewed period with US$2.16 billion in registered and additional capital.
