Date: 5/29/2011 3:08:03 PM
Black & Veatch, one of the US’s leading engineering, consulting and construction companies, has won a contract to provide design services and project management for a $1.4 billion coal-fired power plant in Vietnam’s Soc Trang province.

The corporation’s May 26 statement said that the facility, consisting of two 600 MW units, will be built in Long Phu district, and will supply electricity to 16 million people in the Mekong Delta and connect to the national power grid. The facility is scheduled to be completed in 2014.

"Rapid urbanisation, manufacturing growth and a strong interest in the nation’s rich deposits of rare earth metals are putting pressure on Vietnam’s power grid," Gary Morrow, senior vice president and director of Power Generation Services for Black & Veatch, said in the statement.

A related news story posted onto web site "http://www.kansascity.com" wrote that the Black & Veatch contract will be with the PetroVietnam Technical Services Corp.

Virginia-based Black & Veatch has been doing engineering work in Vietnam for 20 years, completing more than 20 water-related projects and consulting on several other power-related projects.
