40 per cent of Bamboo, Rattan Producing Plants in Vietnam to Face with Dissolution

Up to 40 per cent of bamboo and rattan producing plants in Vietnam are facing with possible dissolution due to the global economic downturn, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Vietnam now has 713 villages specializing producing bamboo and rattan products out of total 2,017 trade villages, creating job to nearly 350,000 local people. 
 
The country exported more than US$205 million worth of bamboo and rattan products as of late November 2008, up only 3.7 per cent against the same period of last year. (Countryside Today)
