The Vietnamese Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs has set a target of establishing employment centers in 40 cities and provinces, in addition to 50 websites connected to the national job market information portal, to ensure employment for 49.5 million people by 2010, state media has said.
The ministry is also aiming to develop a job placement system, linked to the employment websites of all 63 cities and provinces by 2015, said a workshop in northern Bac Ninh province December 16.
Over the past two years, a total of 105 job fairs were organized at 23 employment centers nationwide, attracting 5,000-7,000 job seekers per event.
To date, 20 localities have developed their own employment websites or portals.
Participants at the workshop said though monthly job fairs help to satisfy the demands of the labor market, they still lack of up-to-date information regarding the labor market, as well as a paucity of information regarding the demand and supply of laborers.
Vietnam has generated more than 1.6 million new jobs so far this year, including more than 800,000 overseas jobs, state media has said.
Labor quality is also improving, with the percentage of skilled laborers increasing from 35 per cent in 2003 to the current figure of 50 per cent.
Vietnam has set a target of generating more than 1.7 million jobs in 2009, including over 90,000 from labor export contracts. (VNA)
