Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has recently approved a wind-power development plan in the southern province of Binh Thuan in 2011 – 2020 period and vision till 2030.
Accordingly, total installed capacity will reach about 700 MW by 2020 with nearly 1,500 kWh of total equivalent wind-power output. By 2030, total accumulated installed capacity is expected to reach 2,500 MW, equal to 5.475 kWh of total wind-power output.
In this planning, there are 6 provinces which have potential of wind-power with total area of 23,549 hectares and total expected capacity of 1,570MW including Tuy Phong, Bac Binh, Ham Thuan Bac, Phan Thiet, Ham Thuan and La Gi.
There are six planned areas which are as follows:
* Area 1: Vinh Tan, Vinh Hao, Phuoc The, Phu Lac, Lien Huong, Binh Thanh, Chi Cong, Phong Phu, Phan Ri Cua (Tuy Phong district), Phan Hoa (Bac Binh)
* Area 2: Phan Ri Cua, Hoa Phu (Tuy Phong), Phan Ri Thanh, Cho Lau, Hoa Thang (Bac Binh).
* Area 3: Hoa Thang, Hong Phong (Bac Ninh), Thien Nghiep, Mui Ne, Ham Tien, Phu Long (Phan Thiet)
* Area 4: Tien Thanh (Phan Thiet), Ham My, Ham Kiem, Ham Cuong, Thuan Quy, Tan Thanh (Ham Thuan Nam).
* Area 5: Tan Tien, Tan Binh, Phuoc Loc, Tan Phuoc (La Gi).
* Area 6: Hong Thai, Luong Son, Song Binh, Song Luy, Binh Tan (Bac Binh), Hong Liem (Ham Thuan Bac).
In the near future, in the planning 2011 – 2020 period, Binh Thuan wind-power development will be implemented in 4 areas with a total capacity of 700 MW. In detail, total capacity of area 1 will be 212.5 MW including four projects (Phong Dien 1, Lac Phu, Phuoc The and Hoa Minh).
Area 2 will have total capacity of 267.5 MW with 7 projects (Phan Ri Thanh, Hoa Thang 1 with 3 projects, Hoa Thang 2, Thuan Nhien Phong, Hoa Thang 4). Total capacity of area 3 with 3 projects will be 100 MW (Hong Phong1 and Hong Phong 2, Thien Nghiep).
Area 4 will have 120 MW of total capacity from 7 projects (Tien Thanh with 3 projects, Ham Cuong with 2 projects and Ham Kiem with 2 projects).
