HCMC plans to build more kindergartens in industrial, export processing zones

National Assembly deputy Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, chairwoman of the city’s People’s Council May 10 had a meeting with workers in Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone in district 7, aiming to listen to workers’ expectations in industrial parks and export processing zones in Ho Chi Minh City.

Before the meeting, Ms. Tam had asked workers about their employment, salary and entertainment. Most of workers said that after working hours, they almost stay in their house to clean the house and take care of their children. No one go out for cinema or other entertainment activities.

At the meeting, most of workers said what they concern is the rent. Huynh Huu Phuoc from Nidec Tosok Company said that though the city leaders encouraged landlords not to increase their rents and provide electricity, water support; however, just a few landlords obeyed.

Workers proposed city administration to build dormitories in industrial parks and export processing zones following the southern province of Binh Duong had done.

Other worker, Au Lap Dan from Nidec Tosok Company, said that the authority should build kindergartens in Tan Thuan Park.

Workers also talked about social insurance law and proposed the authority to issue harsh penalty on these companies who collect social insurance of workers but they did not pay to the government. In addition, worker Huynh Tan Tai petitioned that the basic salary should guarantee workers’ living condition.

Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu, deputy chairwoman of People’s Committee in district 7 , said that in March, 2015 the district started building a preschool in Tan Thuan Industrial Park and it is planned to put into operation in December, 2015. The new school can receive 400-450 kids.

The district leader has suggested building 1 or 2 addition preschools to meet workers’ increased demand. The deputy chairwoman promised to check rent increase and traffic gridlock in front of the park.

At the meeting, Ms, Tam listened to workers’ ideas and asked district authority in industrial parks and export processing zones to support rent, electricity and water to workers. Moreover, administrators should be determined in building more preschools in these parks and zones.

On this occasion, Ms.Tam offered 20 gifts to low income families out of her own pocket.
