Cam Ranh international seaport in south-central Vietnam on Thursday welcomed the very first cruise ship since its inauguration in March.
MS Legend of the Seas, a cruise ship operated by Bahamas-based Royal Caribbean International cruise line, yesterday arrived at the international seaport in Khanh Hoa Province for a one-night stay in Vietnam.
The cruise ship was the first of its kind to have arrived at Cam Ranh port since its inauguration in March.
The lead ship of its cruise line, MS Legend of the Seas boasts a gross tonnage of 69,310 GT and is capable of carrying up to 2,074 passengers, with on-board facilities including a Minigolf course, two swimming pools, a theater and cinema, a shopping center, and a rock-climbing wall.
On its arrival in the Vietnamese city, the ship was carrying 740 crew members and 1,800 international tourists, most of whom Chinese and South Koreans, who were taken on a tour around Nha Trang City upon disembarkation.
The ship will be leaving today after spending a night at the Vietnamese port.
Cam Ranh international port had previously welcomed 14 military vessels of different nationalities since its inauguration, but this was the first time it had received a cruise ship, according to the port’s Director Uong Xuan Phuc Son.
According to Son, the port lies in the gulf of Binh Ba, which has favorable natural conditions for a seaport, and can accommodate military and civilian ships like aircraft carriers of up to 110,000 DWT (deadweight tonnage) or cruise ships weighing up to 100,000 GRT (gross tonnage).
In addition, the port can perform repair and construction work on a variety of marine vessels.
