HCMC lists top 10 achievements of 2016

The government of HCMC on December 29 announced the top 10 socio, economic and political achievements which have left positive effects on the city’s economy and improve the living standards of local residents.
In May, the city successfully organized the elections of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and the People’s Councils at all levels in the 2016-2020 tenure.
The city has celebrated the 40th anniversary of it being named after President Ho Chi Minh (July 2, 1976). It has made remarkable achievements with its economy expanding from a mere VND2.5 billion to more than VND1,000 trillion over the past four decades. The city has relocated 36,000 makeshift houses along the canals of Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe, Tan Hoa-Lo Gom, and Tau Hu-Ben Nghe.
A hotline of HCMC authorities has been launched at 08.88247247 to receive complaints from organizations and individuals about issues and policies in the city.
The city’s gross domestic product (GDP) has grown 8.05% this year to more than VND1,000 trillion, the highest growth rate in five years.
Many policies to support enterprises, boost economic growth and fuel production have been issued this year so as to achieve the target of having 500,000 firms in place in the city by 2020.
The city has honored nearly 600 individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the city’s development process.
A book street has been opened to create a cultural space for connecting publishers, writers and readers.
All households in HCMC have had access to clean water while a food safety management board has been established.
The city has held the Overseas Vietnamese Conference 2016 for the first time this year. Gathering 500 overseas Vietnamese professionals, intellectuals and businessmen from 36 countries and territories, the event aimed to call for Vietnamese living and working overseas to contribute to the city and the country in the development process.
