Political will to net zero emissions

Mr. Bui Trung Nghia, Vice President of the Vietnam Confederation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) said that achieving the goal of low net emissions towards zero requires both political will and the participation of governments. different socio-economic sectors.

VCCI leaders pointed out that the circular model in enterprises is still limited; capacity and ability to convert is still low; The ability to link to form a supply chain - production is very limited on a national, regional and international scale.

Therefore, in order to promote the transformation of the model, he proposed that the important solution is to continue to strengthen cooperation between the State, the Government and the business community.

The VCCI representative made 5 recommendations in the medium and long term to further strengthen cooperation between the State, the Government and businesses in promoting the circular economy.

The first is to build a mechanism to encourage model transformation. The second is to promote and participate in effective international cooperation in international agreements and commitments on combating climate change and green development.

The third is to focus on building circular economic models in a number of successful industries and fields to serve as a basis for dissemination and replication.

The fourth is to support the approach to public-private partnership investment in order to maximize the resources of stakeholders. Finally, there is the need to invest in improving the capacity and role of business representative organizations.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Roongrote Rangsiyopash, President and CEO of SCG Group, said that the circular economy requires close cooperation between companies, customers, supply chains and stakeholders. participate in the value chain.

He emphasized that Thai businesses are making efforts to cooperate with public - private organizations in Vietnam to implement many projects in this field. "Our goal is to join hands with partners to develop together towards future sustainability. More than that, I believe this will be an important part towards a larger sustainability goal and net zero carbon emissions in the future," he said.

At the beginning of June, the Government approved the Circular Economy Development Scheme in Vietnam to contribute to concretize the target of reducing greenhouse gas emission intensity per GDP by at least 15% by 2030 compared to 2014, towards zero net emissions by 2050.

The project also aims to increase awareness and investment interest of domestic and foreign businesses and investors in the circular economy model. Promote the application of the circular economy model to promote the greening of economic sectors.
