The Vietnam Maritime Administration is responsible for performing the functions and tasks in accordance with the Government’s Decree No. 38/2017/ND-CP dated April 4, 2017 on investment, construction, management and operation of inland ports. and relevant laws.

This Decision takes effect from the date of signing, replacing Decision No. 1041 dated May 28, 2020 of the Ministry of Transport on the publication of the list of Vietnamese inland ports.

Previously, in 2021, the Ministry of Transport issued Decision No. 1543 announcing the opening of Tan Cang - Que Vo dry port.

Operated by Saigon Newport Corporation, Tan Cang - Que Vo dry port located in Chau Phong commune, Que Vo district, Bac Ninh province is an inland port located on the downstream of Duong river, adjacent to National Highway 18, located near industrial zones in 5 provinces of Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc and Hanoi capital, accounting for 65% of total import and export volume in the Northern region.

The port has a scale of 10ha, accepts barges with a maximum tonnage of 160 TEUs, with 650 m of berths equipped with 5 Liebherr shore cranes with a lifting capacity of 45 tons, a reach of 30 m and equipped with a system of equipment and control technology. modern and synchronous operation, serving as a customs clearance place for import and export goods with full functions such as empty container depot service, barge transportation; customs services, screening, inspection...

Currently, Tan Cang - Que Vo Inland Terminal has received the trust of major shipping lines and agents, by choosing to open operating codes such as: Maersk, HMM, Wanhai, SITC, SM Line, Dongjin. ..

In the future, Tan Cang - Que Vo dry port will continue to be expanded to more than 30 hectares and will become one of the major logistics centers of the northern key economic zone.

Although considered as an "extended arm", sharing pressure, helping seaports increase the speed of cargo clearance, dry ports still have many limitations and have not met expectations due to the small scale of exploitation. Although the network is small, the network connecting to the inland port is still weak, most of which are connected by road.

The master plan on development of Vietnam’s seaport system in the period of 2021 - 2030 with a vision to 2050 sets out the goal of building a synchronous seaport system with logistics infrastructure, connecting traffic routes, especially the ports. Inland ports help seaports speed up cargo clearance, reduce congestion, and improve the exploitation capacity of bridges and ports.

In which, towards multimodal transport connection, priority is given to convenient connection locations by inland waterway transport, river and sea transport, railway and road transport to seaports.
