Introduction
  Overview

        Quang Ninh is a coastal province in Northeastern of Vietnam. In economic development planning, Quang Ninh is both in the Northern key economic zone and in the Northern coastal region. This is a major coal mining province of Vietnam. World Heritage Ha Long Bay and Mong Cai international border gate are located in this province. Quang Ninh is the province with the most urban Vietnam: Ha Long City, Mong Cai, Uong Bi, Cam Pha and Quang Yen town.


  Natural Conditions

Geographical location:

Quang Ninh is a province in the first place northeast of Vietnam, a skewed rectangular shape is angling towards the northeast - southwest, adjacent to the following areas:
            +
Guangxi Province (China) with Mong Cai border gate and Trinh Tuong in the North.
            + Lang Son Province and Bac Giang Province in the West.  
            + Hai Duong Province and Hai Phong City in the South.

            + Bac Bo Bay in the East.

 

Area:

Natural area: 6.110,813 km²

Quang Ninh Sea has more than 2,000 islands, accounting for 2/3 of the island of Vietnam (2078/2779).

 

Population:

The average population: 1177.8 thousands people (2011)

Labor force: about 633.4 thousands people (2011)

 

Climate:

 

Quang Ninh’s climate is symbolic of the climate of North Vietnam; featuring all four seasons.

 In summer, it is hot, humid and rainy, while monsoons flourish.

The average annual temperature recorded is 22.9°C.

 

Terrain:

 Quang Ninh is a mountainous - coast. More than 80% of the land is mountainous, more than two thousand floating islands on the sea are the mountains.
 
Coastal areas and islands of Quang Ninh besides the alluvial silt sandy beaches set up from the waves. There are places to mine sand as raw material for glass technology (Van Hai), where has great beaches (such as Tra Co, Quan Lan, Minh Chau, Ngoc Vung ...)
 
Seafloor topography of Quang Ninh, not flat, the average depth is 20 m. The current flow connected to the creek deep depths of the sea to create a series of canals and ports on the winding coastline sheltered by the islands shielding corridor, creating a potential port and waterway very large.

 

 

  Transport infrastructures

-       Roads: Quang Ninh completed arterial road systems connecting with other provinces in the Northern key economic zone and in the country.

 

-       Waterway: As a province has the advantage of sea transport development.

Port systems include:
+ Cai Lan deep-water port: can accommodate vessels from 3 - 5 thousand tons, is the largest port of Quang Ninh, the gateway "in-out" of the Northern key economic zone. Cai Lan Port is being built and upgraded to be able to pick up the container ship through the port about 18-21 million tonnes by 2020.
+ Hon Gai port has turned into the international tourist port.
+ Cua Ong  port handling capacity of cargo through the port from 3-5 million tons for coal mining in Cam Pha.
+B12 port to transfer fuel to the North.
       - Some river ports:
+ Van Gia port: is the gateway to China, with a depth of  9-10 m for 10,000 tons, is a convenient point to convey. Capacity through port about 2 million tons / year.
+ Mui Ngoc port: has suitable location to build multi-function port, both cargo port and passenger port. Plan to build loading dock about 500 tons.
+ Mui Chua port: is located between the region Hong Gia and Hai Ninh which is very convenient for transporting goods.
+ Bai Chay tourist port: the purpose of transporting tourists to visit Ha Long Bay.

 

-          Railways:

 Quang Ninh has only railway from Kep to Bai Chay which is longer than 166 km, the route mainly transports coal and a significant amount of goods from Bai Chay to inland.

 In the near future, Quang Ninh will build new route: Hanoi - Yen Vien - Ha Long has a length of about 180 km to strengthen the capacity of goods through the northern key economic areas and contribute to the rapid clearance of goods through ports in the province.

 

-          Air:

Quang Ninh has a parking for helicopter in Ha Long and Mong Cai.

Van Don airport construction project meets international standards by the Ministry of Transportation and approved by the Government to implement in the period from 2006 to 2010.

  Economic situations

     Being located in the Northern economic triangle (Hanoi-Haiphong-Quangninh), the province has abundant resources and has immense potential to develop the economy in every sector. The People's Committee of Quang Ninh Province in 2007 approved proposals for development plans up to 2020. Industrial development is taking place at a rapid pace. Mineral extraction industries are being developed. Special economic zones are being created and the plans envisage making the province a modern industrial province by 2015. The two economic development zones under development are the Mong Cai Border Gate Economic Zone and the Van Don Economic Zone.

    In 2010, Quang Ninh province is the provincial competitiveness index ranks seventh in Vietnam.
    In 2011, Quang Ninh ranked fifth in the country in state budget revenues (after Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Hai Phong).

   Tourism is also a sector of economic development, which has been given priority.
