Hung Yen is a province located in the Northern Key Economic Zone which encompasses the Red River Delta and the economic triangle Hanoi – Hai Phong - Quang Ninh.. Acting as the eastern gate of Hanoi, it connects to national roads 39A and 38 linking national road no. 5 across town to exit to national road 1A. In addition, Hung Yen benefits from proximity to Hai Phong, Cai Lan Seaports, Noi Bai International Airport. It links northeastern provinces of the northern plains (Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh) with the northern central provinces of Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An.

Hung Yen is located in the Northern Vietnam plains and in lowlands bordered by
- Bac Minh to the North.
- Thai Binh and Ha Nam to the South.
- Hai Duong to the East.
- Ha Tay and Ha Noi to the West.
The Luoc River separates Hung Yen and Thai Binh while the Hong River separates Hung Yen, Ha Nam and Ha Tay.

Hung Yen belongs to tropical-monsoon climate area.
There’re 2 seasons: the hot and the cold.
In hot season, it rains a lot from May to October.

Terrain:
Altitude drops from north to south, west to east with alternating low terrains (swamps, lakes, ponds, low lying rice fields), often flooded. The highest point shows elevation codes +9 to +10 found at the alluvial land of Xuan Quang Village, Van Giang rural district, the lowest point at +0.9 code locates at Tien Tien Village (Phu Cu rural district).
Hung Yen locates in the Northern Key Economic Region, in proximity of Noi Bai, Cat Bi Airports, Hai Phong, Cai Lan Seaports, being crossed over by major roads, national roads No 5 and 1.
The province avails Thanh Tri, Yen Lanh, Trieu Duong Bridges which greatly help to connect with other provinces and international roadways.
Internal communication net, fairly well developed, well serves the movement of people, industrial and service development.
Investments have been done in construction of passenger ports, cargo ports on Luoc River, Hong River to beef up internal waterway communication, canal dredging is to facilitate safe navigation of 50- ton boats.
Concentrating on the investment to create the breakthrough:
Hung Yen has the advantage of lying in the heart of the Red River Delta, in the northern key economic zone; the transportation system has been gradually improved and upgraded ccontributing significantly to socio-economic development of the province. However, over the past few years, the greatly increasing volume of traveling has been degrading many routes. Because of the uncompleted unincomprehensive transportation network, the exploitation of potentials is not high and can not meet the demand of industrialization and organization. With the purpose of becoming the industrial province before 2020, Hung Yen province defines “concentrate on building, creating a breakthrough in transport infrastructure" .To implement the above objectives, the Director of Hung Yen Transport department, Pham Anh Quan said: In period 2010-2015, The Hung Yen transport sector strives to implement its task: The term of the transport sector 2010-2015 Hung Yen province strives to implement its tasks: To build a planned transport network of the province till to 2020 and to orientate until to 2030 aiming to deploying better the great roads of the country; considering the development of foreign transport is the important basic to create the advantage to develop the society and economy for the country.
Completing upgrading the National road 38, Provincial road 200 as the standard of 3 level in delta area .Coordinating with other agencies to speed up the construction of the road on the Red River dike, the road linking the highway between Hanoi - Hai Phong and highway between Gie bridge - Ninh Binh, the economic backbone north - south ... and build the connection points with the belt axis of Hanoi, foreign roads with neighboring provinces, building the Red River ports, Luoc river ports.
In recent years, with the "red carpet" investor policy, Hung Yen has attracted a large amount of domestic and foreign investment capital, a significant drive for economic development and employment.
In 2012, the province licensed 71 new projects, including 52 domestic investment projects and 19 foreign investment projects, with a total registered capital of VND2,611 billion (US$130 million) and US$186.4 million, bringing the investment project total to 1,021 projects (794 domestic investment projects and 227 foreign investment projects) with a total registered capital of VND55.91 trillion and US$2.156 billion. They employ over 100,500 workers.
As of June 2012, the province had 4,500 enterprises, 2,384 farms, 180 non-agricultural cooperatives, and 52,532 individual business households relating to foreign investment fields. If each enterprise, farm, cooperative or business household had one leader, then the province had up to 59,596 entrepreneurs (of over 4 million entrepreneurs in the country) at that time.
They are the major force for building and developing production and business models, representing new production forces, deciding the liberation of productive forces, accelerating the cause of industrialisation, modernisation and international integration and generating new value chains for society. They are the force that changes the class structure and maintains social and political stability. They are one of backbone forces in comprehensive strategy on growth, poverty reduction and social security.
With the Politburo’s first-ever issuance of a document concerning the construction and promotion the roles of entrepreneur force and business community, the Party has confirmed the roles of enterprises and entrepreneurs in the economy and the political system, unified the thinking of the roles of entrepreneurs, and encouraged the business community in Vietnam to contribute more to the country’s social and economic development. The introduction of Resolution 09/NQ-TW of the Politburo has met the requirements of the economy and reflects the aspirations of entrepreneurs.
